Cerro Chato Costa Rica
Cerro Chato Volcano or simply Cerro Chato is a former volcano (currently considered a dormant volcano ) which is located next to Arenal Volcano ( to its East ). It is part of the Tilaran Mountain Range. The mountain is totally covered by a lush tropical rainforests on its lower slopes and a pristine tropical cloud forest near the top. The main attraction is the Green Lagoon, located on the mountain top. The lagoon used to be the former active crater. The hikwe to the lagoon can be arranged starting from the North East side ( Fortuna Waterfall road ), which takes around 4 hours, always depending on the speed of each participant. There is another entrance from South East , near Arenal Observatoy Lodge, which is also a quite strong hike. Both trails reach the same lagoon from different sides. Once at the top, people can enjoy a magical scenery, a secluded pristine volcanic lagoon surrounded by nothing else than tropical forests.
