La Cangreja National Park Costa Rica
The La Cangreja National Park is located in Puriscal, around 2 hours south west from the main capital city of San Jose. It is a smaller national park, but one with an unmatched topography and geography and above all, a still un - explored national park with endemic species of plants and many species of endangered wildlife. The park`s highest point stands at 1350 meters above sea level, and its lowest is at 350 meters above sea level. There is a strong and diverse terrain diversity, from its high rocky peaks and interesting cliffs and pinnacles, to a large portion of tropical transition forest, with species both from the South Pacific influence and species from the North Pacific and the Central Valley converging . The park has a trail that the visitor can explore by foot, covering a distance of 12 kilometers or 8 miles if entering at the Santa Rosa entrance and exiting at Mastatal`s entrance and then walking back. The park also has an astounding number of pristine iove4rs, 4 in total plus many creeks. These rivers have an extreme abundance of water all year round, pristine and fresh. Another highlight is actually climbing/trekking to its highest peak. This trip has to be booked in advance, since we have to pre arrange a local guide that will take you through thick brush land, charral and tropical forest to the incredible peak, with 4 steep cliffs and vertical pinnacles and rocky walls surrounding you. As far as lodging option, there closest hotel is Paraiso Carlisa, located further south near the town of La Gloria.
