Monteverde Cloud forest
Monteverde is one of the best known destinations in Costa Rica for ecotourism, bird watching, and adventure and nature trips alike. The main reason why tourists visit Monteverde is the cloud forests. There are two large clod forest reserves located around the community of Monteverde and the town of Santa Elena. The Monteverde Reserve is visited by hundreds of tourists daily, while Santa Elena is a bit less visited. Both forests have the same species of fauna and flora, although in our personal experience, we have seen more animals in the Santa Elena reserve than in Monteverde. The main attractions for tourists, besides the breathtaking views of the evergreen jungle is the Bell Bird and the Quetzal, or Paradise Bird. Both Reserves have well marked trails, bathrooms and local guides available. The entrance is open for visitors from 7 AM to 4 PM daily. Both reserves can be visited self guided, although we always recommend a bilingual naturalist guide, it will really enrich the visit a lot, making you understand the things you see and hear.
