Costa Rica museums
The main museums are located in the Central Valley, most of them in the city of San Jose. The Gold Museum is a fantastic place, where you will find exhibits of pre Colombian Gold crafts, made by the many indigenous people that were the original rulers and inhabitants of Costa Rica. There also is the Jade Museum,. Located in the INS building. Here you will find a vast exhibition of crafts made of Jade by the pre Colombian indigenous people. The National Museum is the main museum. It is situated within an ancient building, formerly a fortress and in the later days a prison. This museum has a vast collection of ceramic, pottery, gold and jade crafts made by indigenous people. The different halls will take you through all the different time periods of Costa Rica`s history, including the Colonial times and the more recent years. Another museums you can visit in San Jose is the Art Museum, where different artists expose their art.
