The little town of Sierpe is located on the banks and shores of the Sierpe River, one of the largest rivers in Costa Rica`s South Pacific and main gateway for exploring the Sierpe Mangroves, the Osa Peninsula and Isla Violines. The town consists of a few houses and shops, supermarkets, bars and waterfront restaurants that at the same time serve as docks for the many boats that depart daily. The town is mainly used as a one stop destination either to leave the car and depart by boat to the Osa Peninsula, or upon return when driving back or driving towards other destinations in the south or elsewhere. Sierpe does not offer lots of hotels, some cabins are distributed in town. North of town, up river, where the Sierpe River begins is Laguna Sierpe, a large natural freshwater lagoon with abundant fauna and flora.
