Tenorio Volcano and Rio Celeste

The touristic zone of Tenorio Volcano and National Park and Rio Celeste river is located in the northern region of Costa Rica, between the communities of Bijagua de Upala and San Rafael de Guatuso. Tenorio Volcano is a massive volcano located in the Tilaran Mountain Range, between the Central Volcanic Mountain Range and the Guanacaste Mountain Range. Covered entirely by tropical rainforests and some cloud forests in the higher altitudes, it is an important wildlife habitat zone of endangered species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and birds. There is a beautiful tropical lagoon situated in the upper parts of the volcano called Laguna Dantas. Near Tenorio is Rio Celeste River, a light blue colored river that comes down from the mountains. The blue color is created when two smaller streams join, combine their chemicals and create this unique color. Tours in the area include hiking to the crater lagoon, Laguna Dantas, Rio Celeste and the upper part of Rio Celeste, horseback riding, bird watching trips and much more. Hotel options are quite abundant but do not exceed 20 options, from luxury hotels to standard options, eco lodges, boutique hotels and budget accommodation options. Tenorio and Rio Celeste is located at only 1 hour from Cañas and 1 ½ hours from La Fortuna (n Arenal Volcano )
