Esquinas Lodge

Only 5 kilometers apart from the Interamerican Highway and a 30-minute taxi ride from Golfito airport, the lodge welcomes all kinds of nature lovers,whether ecotourists looking for a jungle adventure off the beaten track, birdwatchers, natural history groups interested in studying the rich biodiversity of a tropical rainforest, or educational groups participating in field courses.

Each of the ten cozy rooms has a private bath, hot water shower, tiled floor and ceiling fan. While relaxing on the shady veranda, guests can enjoy a close-up view of the forest. The array of exotic birds, including parrots and toucans, is stunning (over 200 species have been counted).
The large main building has a spacious, open living room, library, bar, and a restaurant offering high-standard cuisine only a stone's throw from the dense jungle. Meals include fresh tropical fruits and vegetables grown on the property.

A crystal-clear jungle stream flows through the naturally-filtered swimming pool and the beautifully landscaped tropical garden, which attracts a great variety of wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, caymans and colorful butterflies. A 10-mile long network of well-marked trails departs directly behind the lodge. Guests can chose between an easy walk of 30 minutes or more strenuous hikes of up to 5 hours, most of which lead through fascinating, untouched primary forest. All of this jungle was bought with donations from thousands of Austrians and donated to the Costa Rican national park service.
How to get to Esquinas Lodge
Plane:
Regular daily scheduled flights to Golfito with SANSA and Travelair. Free airport pick-up for guests with reservations, or 30-minute taxi ride to the lodge.

Car:
From San José drive 300 km ( 5 - 6 hours) south on the Interamerican Highway to Villa Briceño (Km. 37), from where signs lead to the lodge (4 km). From Golfito take dirt road to La Gamba (10 km); follow signs to the lodge.

TOURS AND ACTIVITIES

Esquinas Rainforest Lodge offers a large variety of excursions, all of which can be booked at the lodge. The availailability of some excursions depends on weather, sea, and road conditions. The immediate vicinity of the lodge has a network of over 10 miles of nature trails within the limits of Piedras Blancas National Park.
Experienced guides are on hand to lead guests through the rainforest - hikes last from 30 minutes up to 5 hours.

The biodiversity of Costa Rica's newest, remotest and least known national park, Piedras Blancas, is one of the highest in all of Central America. Esquinas Rainforest Lodge is the ideal base for excursions into the dense jungle, which has hardly been explored or researched. The lodge has developed a six-day, all-inclusive program full of variety for sporty, adventurous persons wishing to experience the rainforest without having to forfeit a high standard of comfort. The excursions are not extremely long, strenuous,or dangerous, although a certain amount of fitness and adaptability to the tropics is recommended. Mornings are devoted to exploring the rainforest with an experienced guide - on foot, on horseback, on mountain bikes, by kayak, or by boat.
