Hotel
Mirador Lodge
Drake
Bay - Osa - Costa Rica
Cabinas El Mirador
Lodge is situated on a hill overlooking
Drake's Bay on the Osa Peninsula
of the Pacific Coast of Southern
Costa Rica. Because it is off the
beaten path, Drake's Bay has managed
to preserve much of the pure, natural
charm of its pristine beaches and
lush jungles, teeming with wildlife
and vegetation. Drake's Bay is conveniently
situated on the border of Corcovado
National Park and only 12 miles
west of the Isla del Caño,
one of the best spots for diving
and snorkeling in the region. Drake's
Bay was named after the legendary
pirate Sir Francis Drake as history
tells us that Drake spent time in
the bay and possibly even buried
treasure here.
Mirador Lodge is
located exactly in Drake Bay close
to the town of Agujitas.
It is on top of
a hill, which permits an amazing
view from its facilities, in front
of the beach and on the road, great
strategic spot for the beach enjoy
and tour starting point. You can
get to Agujitas “Downtown”
in minutes just waling what permits
freedom of walking around and buying
certain emergency grocery or snack.
How to get here?
There are several
ways to get to Drake Bay:
Flights:
To and from San
Jose directly
From Manuel Antonio to Palmar. We
would have previously arranged a
taxi to take you to Sierpe to take
the boat to Drake Bay.
Public bus:
There is a bus
that departs form San José
to Palmar at 5:00am. You need to
buy the tickets before because there
is the risk of not being able to
travel at all or having to travel
standing up for the whole 6 hours
trip. We would have previously arranged
a taxi to take you to Sierpe.
This bus coming from San José
passes by San Isidro for a short
stop at around 8:30am. Se detienen
en la parada principal de Tracopa
en la que se puede estar esperando
para abordarlo y dirigirse hacia
Palmar. You can wait for it at the
Tracopa bus station and aboard it
there.
Private transportation
with either rent a car, owned car
or private minivan:
Go up to Palmar on the Cerro de
la Muerte road, pass by San Isidro
del General, keep going up to Palmar
on the way to the border with Panamá.
Once in Palmar take the detour to
Sierpe up to the docks. Just like
the bus you need to depart from
San José at 5:00am.
During summer time you can drive
down to Drake Bay with a 4x4 only.
From Sierpe to
Drake Bay:
Once in Sierpe
find a parking lot for your car
if you brought one. (Hotel Oleaje
Sereno charges around $4 per night
for the parking lot) and take the
motor boat to Drake Bay which departs
only at 11:30am. The total ride
takes around 1:30am. Half of this
time, approximately, goes through
one of the most important waterlands
of Meso-America, Sierpe –
Terraba Mangrove forests. Here you
can watch on both sides of the river,
species like crocodiles, sloths,
birds, monkeys and many others.
