For your comfort all suites at El Sapo Dorado offer private entrance and porch, private bath with hot water shower , 2 queen-sized beds with orthopedic mattresses, versatile lighting, and a table and chairs for writing, playing games, or enjoying room service. All suites accommodate up to 4 people and are surrounded by spacious tropical grounds perfect for children s outdoor fun.

Our 10 Sunset Terrace Suites feature an open - air terrace overlooking the Gulf of Nicoya.

The Restaurant

El Sapo Dorado restaurant features original recipes in a blend of international and Costa Rican cuisine.


El Sapo Dorado restaurant is known for the creativity, variety, flavor, freshness, and presentation of our food from breakfast to dinner. Our menu always includes a choice of whole grains, vegetarian and vegan dishes, pastas, seafood, chicken, as well as beef, pork, and decadent desserts. Organic produce is used whenever possible.

Our recipes are all unique to El Sapo Dorado or are original adaptations of old favorites. Special dietary needs are easily accommodated with advance notice. The restaurant bar is fully equipped and the staff trained to prepare any classic delight as well as the most exotic of cocktails. We devote ourselves to seeing that quality remains consistent and that service improves daily.

Classical and jazz selections ( on compact disk ) accompany breakfast and dinner. Latin rhythms provide the atmosphere during the midday hours. Our restaurant has inside seating for nonsmokers as well as terrace seating with a view of the Gulf of Nicoya for those who enjoy a cigarette or pipe. Cigar smoking is not permitted.

Services and Tours

The Monteverde Cloud forest Preserve, the Santa Elena Rain Forest Reserve, the Bajo del Tigre Trail, the Canopy Tour, slide shows, the Butterfly Garden and the Serpentarium. In addition to these are horseback riding, mountain biking, the local Cheese Factory Tour, artist's studios and gift shops featuring items handmade by local artisans.

An excellent trail alternative is the private Sendero Tranquilo which borders the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve and specializes in personalized guided tours. Binocular rental available.

In addition El Sapo Dorado offers you the luxury and convenience of five kilometers of self-guided trails adjacent to the hotel where you can explore both primary and secondary forests, open pastures and panoramic views of the Gulf of Nicoya. These trails are reserved for the exclusive use of our guests and offer a quiet alternative to the larger reserves.
