Hotel
Bougainvillea
Heredia
- Costa Rica
Here you'll easily
forget that you're just 15 minutes
from downtown or the airport San José.
Set amidst the coffee farms of Santo
Domingo de Heredia, the hotel has
extensive areas dominated by tall
trees and brightened by plentiful
flowers. In Hotel Bougainvillea we
offer you the chance to enjoy our
country from the first minute of your
vacation. Don't loose your precious
time. Bienvenidos a Costa Rica !
The rooms
Rooms are large with
two double beds, a sitting area and
the full range of facilities. Each
has a balcony offering marvelous views
of the mountains one one side and
the San José skyline on the
other. Most of our rooms have free
wi-fi internet access. Balconies opening
from rooms display a marvelous view
of the mountains on one side and the
San José skyline on the other.
Each of the eigthy one rooms has twin
double beds, tub or shower, and a
separate seating area. There are also
four Junior suites and two rooms for
the disabled. The furniture is especially
made of Costa Rican hardwoods, and
all rooms have cable T.V. and direct
dial telephones. Hotel Bougainvillea
has the charm of a family owned and
operated hotel. Every detail of the
hotel and restaurant is personally
supervised by owner Hans van der Wielen,
who brought his experience and style
when he came to Costa Rica in 1961.
Restaurant
Our maitre d' hotel seats guests
in a tastefully decorated dining room,
either at a front window table or
at a table with views of softly-lighted
paintings of Costa Rican scenes--on
tile, and in oils and watercolors.
Before you read the menu for the
larger meals of the day, we would
like you to know how carefully we
consider the health of our guests
and the nutritional value and balance
of the meals we prepare. The quality
of water is monitored regularly by
a laboratory; it is pure because it
is drawn from a well some 150 meters
(nearly 500 feet) deep in a forested
watershed area.
Enjoy our buffet breakfast while
looking at the birds right outside
the window or order “à
la carte” one af the local specialties:
gallo pinto , rice and beans with
scrambled eggs, or huevos rancheros
, ranch-style eggs cooked in a rich
tomato sauce and served with warm
corn tortillas. The renowned Costa
Rican coffee comes in three types:
“regular” dark roast,
expresso, and decaffeinated. After
coffee, you might enjoy a golden cream
liquor Café Rica, made from
Costa Rican coffee.
At mid-day we offer the ‘Menú
del Día', a 3-course meal,
but lighter fare such as the Bougainvillea
salad or hearts of palm are also offered.
Fresh salmon is flown in from Chile
while corvina , sea bass, is a favorite
Costa Rican fish. Bougainvillea chefs
enjoy preparing Costa Rican food such
as a regional vegetable dish ”casado
vegetariano” which comprises
rice, black beans, tomato, avocado,
plantain fried in vegetable oil, two
types of vegetables and a tortilla
topped with beans and white cheese.
Desserts are home-made confections
such as a cake or cream of maracuyá
, passion fruit. Pastel de tres leches
is a particularly rich cake of three
milks, moist and delicate.
In the evening, ceviche , which is
corvina marinated in fresh lemon and
cilantro, is a light and popular dish
which can be served as an appetizer
or on a salad plate. At table or in
the adjacent bar, beer, Chilean, American
and European wines and all the best
liquors are served. Guaro , a local
spirit made from sugar cane can be
drank straight or made into a guaro
sour.
Pool and other facilities
Enjoy reading a book or taking the
sun by our secluded pool area, surrounded
by representations of local landscapes
in tile. In the swimming pool area
you may also find our sauna bath.
Adjoining the pool area are the two
lighted tennis courts. We have tennis
rackets to lend you so if you want
to play tennis we recommend you just
bring your own tennis balls as they
are very expensive here in Costa Rica.
We also have the balls for sale in
our Gift Shop.
Also available:
Souvernir Shop, Conference Rooms,
Landscaped garden, tour desk and much
more.
