The River Lodge
Located near the Sarapiquí
River, our charming River Lodge
rooms rise above the rainforest
floor on elevated platforms affording
you a unique view of the surrounding
flora and fauna. Rooms accommodate
one to four guests in twin beds.

The Bungalows
Our Bungalows are discretely tucked
in the forest near our Butterfly
Garden and are well suited for students
and small groups. They accommodate
up to four guests in twin beds.

Sarapiquí Wildlife
Boat Ride
Glide down the Sarapiquí
River in search of caiman, howler
monkeys, iguanas, birds, and other
tropical wildlife. Enjoy the covered
boats with quiet electric motors
and drivers who are expert animal
spotters.

trip transportation (2 hours)

Adventure
Depart from Selva Verde and journey
through the Caribbean lowlands of
Costa Rica. A preliminary safety
orientation will prepare you for
the challenges you’ll face
on the water. Keep an eye out for
the diversity of the wildlife seen
at the river’s edge in between
the Class I-III rapids. If you are
a skilled rafter, we can arrange
a more challenging excursion on
Class III-IV rapids. All trips are
escorted by a professional river
guide.

Cultural Exchange and Community
Service Activities
The Selva Verde Lodge campus houses
the Sarapiquí Conservation
Learning Center (SCLC), an educational
not-for-profit. Here you can interact
with the Center’s international
volunteers and members of the Puerto
Viejo community while participating
in a variety of projects.
Price ranges from free to $20 per
person.

Looking for a little excitement?
Take a quick jaunt across the Rio
Sarapiquí on a zip line.
Suit up in safety equipment before
hooking on to a steel cable to glide
across the river. A trained guide
on each end of the zip line will
help you reach the rainforest safely.

Horseback Riding
Explore the Sarapiquí countryside
and rain forest by horseback. Spot
these species common to Costa Rica:
white-nosed coatimundis, howler
monkeys, and a variety of birds
including Keel-billed Toucans, Great
Green Macaws, etc. Ride is accompanied
by a Spanish-speaking guide.

Birdwatching Walk
Join us each morning at 6 a.m. to
study the prolific avifauna found
in the Sarapiquí region.
A resident naturalist guide helps
you learn to identify native and
migratory birds by sight and song
as they dine on fresh fruits each
morning.

Our charming butterfly garden is
well stocked with plants and flowers
ideal for nurturing butterflies
in various stages of growth. Explore
