After a drive through the jungle to Golfito, we board a motor-boat for an excursion along the pristine, hardly inhabited coast, where the rainforest reaches all the way down to the beach. Pelicans and frigate birds sit in the trees overlooking Golfo Dulce, and there is a good chance of seeing dolphins. After an hour, we reach Casa Orquideas, a private botanical garden with hundreds of species of tropical plants, flowers, trees, shrubs and fruit. After a guided tour, ample time remains for swimming, and snorkeling. If the water is clear, we can see colorful tropical reef fish. The boat brings us back to Golfito, from where we are driven to the lodge.
