Detailed description
of itinerary
Day #1
Upon arrival at the Tropical Center (TC),
you will start experiencing life in the
rainforest! Before we serve dinner , our
birdwatching guide will give us a speech
on the actual bird situation in Osa.
Day #2
Very early in the morning, we will leave
towards Tigre River. This is the best
opportunity to watch river and mangrove
birds. In the afternoon we will be traveling
to Chocuaco Lagoon located in Rancho Quemado
(30 minutes from the TC). We will walk
thru several caddle farms until we get
to the lagoon, where we will navigate
through a narrow canal until getting to
the open lagoon. Along the canals, you
will enjoy lots of interesting sounds:
birds, reptiles, amphibians are one of
the most common animals. While paddling
back to the shore and through caddle farms,
you will watch many birds looking for
a shelter to spend the night. After dinner,
get ready for an extraordinary experience,
taking a night walk at Heliconia trail.
Open your senses to enjoy the scents,
sights and sounds of the rain forest’s
nightlife.
Day #3
We will take an early breakfast, after
which we will leave towards the Corcovado
National Park. The trip to and from the
Park will be on wagon pulled by a tractor
or rural truck. This park protects the
last remnant of tropical rain forest on
the Pacific coast of Central America.
It covers over 40.000 hectares of primary
forest, home for a great variety of species
of flora and fauna; including heliconias,
frogs, birds, butterflies, small mammals,
snakes, fig trees. This will be the only
time during the program when you will
be in a primary forest.
We will cross Rincón River several
times during the ride and will follow
its bank for approximately an hour, until
we reach the trail to "Los Patos"
ranger station inside the park. Once at
Los patos, we’ll have a light snack
in order to get ready for our birdwatching
hike to the magnificent waterfall. Usually,
the arrival time back at the Tropical
Center is around 4pm.
Day #4
We will have an early morning walk along
the Catarata Trail. This is a great activity
to watch forest and open area birds. Back
at the TC we will have breakfast and continue
watching open area birds. After lunch,
we will get prepared for your trip back
to San José.
