Cabo Blanco
National Park

General Information
Since 1963, after being declared a protected area,
a natural regeneration of the forest took place. Visitors
may appreciate the way nature has reconstructed the
forest.
Absolute Reserve Cabo Blanco is much
more than a monument to human hope; it is a good example
of nature in the search of its own balance. It has
an extension of 1,272 Hectares (land) and 1,700 Hectares
(marine area).
Location
It is located on the southern end of the Nicoya Peninsula,
at the Northern Pacific coast, 18 Km. from Cobano
and 11 Km. from the tourist village of Montezuma,
at the Cobano district, province of Puntarenas. It
belongs to the Tempisque Conservation Area.
Main attractives
Basicly, the reserve comprises two kinds of forest:
primary forest, the area’s original forest,
and secondary forest, the regenerated forest. 140
tree species can be found at the reserve, such us
anacardium excelsum, licania platypus, brosimum costaricanum
and luehea seemannii.
Fauna is varied and includes squirrels, brocket deer,
howler monkeys, raccoons and kinkajous, among others.
There are also many marine birds,
such as pelicans, curassows and crested guan. Huge
populations of fish, crayfish and mollusks represent
marine fauna.
Besides, it hosts the Cabo Blanco Island, a great
rock that emerges from the sea, located 1,600 meters
from the southern end of the peninsula.
